With thousands of people fleeing Syria and making their way towards Europe, it’s easy to relegate their stories as refugees to newspaper headlines and political banners. This is the story of one man, the people he loves and the country that hates them. A reminder that in amidst of every political situation are ordinary people who love and laugh and dream and argue. Following his wife Raghda’s release from a Syrian prison Amer tries to build a new life with her and their children. McAllister films the family over a period of 5 years recording the children growing up and the parents growing apart. An intimate family portrait showing, sadly, that all is not fair in love or in war.
