A Present from the Past

There’s no fool like an old fool. Egyptian Mokhtar Younis, a Professor of Cinema, goes to Rome with his filmmaker daughter. His quest, to find Patrizia, the girl he left behind in Italy (but whose present of a ring he still cherishes) all those years and years ago. He’s 75 now and he goes with the blessing of his wife of some 30 years. Now to find Patrizia, picking up helpmeets along the way. It’s not all plain sailing and the funny charm of the film lies in their loving sometimes fractious, father-daughter relationship. The dénoument is that they find a bemused Patrizia who, a bit of a rabbit in the headlights with a camera turned on her, clearly has not spent a single night tossing and turning over the long departed.
